Final Issue of Smartphone & Pocket PC magazine

After 11 years, we will be publishing a final 2008 issue of Smartphone & Pocket PC magazine and then suspend publication! We are working hard to make it the best Windows Mobile issue ever, a keeper, a reference guide. In 2009 we will publish Smartphone magazine’s iPhone Life. Below, I’ve attempted to answer questions that have been asked of me:

Adjust the scrolling speed of the D-pad
- Go to the Start >Settings >Buttons >Up/Down Control tab.
- Adjust the slider on the “Delay before first repeat” field. If you hold the D-pad in the down or up position, it waits a brief period of time before scrolling.

These days, the line between what constitutes a plain old "cell phone" and a "smartphone" is becoming increasingly blurred. With each new generation of phone, more and more features and functions are being added, including e-mail, Web browsing, and increased media playback capability. Some may ask, "Why should I pay more for a ‘smartphone' when I can get ‘non-smartphone' that can basically do all the same stuff?

HTC Touch Diamond/Pro coming from Sprint, Verizon
Rumors are about that Verizon and Sprint will be offering the HTC Touch Diamond and HTC Touch Pro. Plus, there’s a great video on YouTube of the amazing Touch Pro interface. This week we’ll also note a few reviews of the new HP iPAQ 910 and leaked information about the Treo 850.

Pocket Streets: Maps on the Go!
Pocket Streets is a street map program for those who find themselves frequently traveling in strange cities, or on unfamiliar roads. It lets you put away your fold-up maps, and download to your H/PC portions of street maps from Microsoft's desktop PC map programs, Expedia Streets, Mappoint and Trips 2000. It also works with Microsoft's U.K. street map program, AutoRoute Express GB 2000. Pocket Streets 3.0 is included with each of these Microsoft products.

Get Answers via ChaCha; Live Search Mobile Update; Downloading Software
I’m surprised I haven’t yet mentioned ChaCha, a free, human-powered service that lets you ask any question and sends you an answer via text message. Also, this week we’ll note an update of Windows Live for Windows Mobile and discuss various opportunities for downloading software, including freeware, directly to your device.
